Please be advised that garbage rates will increase to $450 annually in the year 2025 due to economic circumstances beyond our control. The driving change is partly due to inflation; a rise in the hauler’s trash collection costs and disposal rates; labor shortages; and increasing operating costs, such as truck maintenance, insurance prices, wages, and higher fuel costs. Rush Township was locked into a 5-year contract (pre-Covid), so while other municipalities had a slow increase in rates over the past several years, we still had the same low rate for 5 years. Since 2022, most neighboring communities in PA have ultimately experienced a significant hike in curbside garbage collection rates.
Please note that Rush Township Ordinance #97 states that each residential unit is to be charged for refuse collection with whom the Township has contracted; therefore, residents may NOT opt out of this garbage pickup and will be billed according to the fees set forth with the new contract.
